Molasses Tank Inspection

Project summary
ADM has provided both a 20-year internal inspection along with a 5-year external online inspection of Wilmar’s Molasses Tanks No. 3 and No. 4. The inspection findings and recommendations led to some necessary preventative maintenance and the continued safe operation of the vessels.
Project details
Wilmar strategically track the condition of their high-risk storage tank vessels by performing periodic inspections. In 2022, Wilmar’s molasses tanks at the Townsville Port required a 5-year external online inspection. ADM has previously conducted a 20-year major inspection of these tanks, and was again engaged by Wilmar to perform the 5-year inspection of Molasses Tank No. 3 and Molasses Tank No. 4.
How ADM approached the project
ADM applied their API 653 tank inspection accreditation and expertise to scope, plan, and conduct the 5-year external online inspection. This inspection included:
- formulating safety and work execution documents,
- liaising with site-based personnel, and
- essential equipment to conduct the inspection.
The results
These inspections were completed in a safe and timely manner. The inspection report was compiled and delivered to Wilmar with findings and recommendations, which led to preventative maintenance and the continued safe operation of the vessels.
